What if it could be better?
Clinical Supervision for Counsellors & Interns in BC.
At Kayda Health, we provide Clinical Supervision & Consultation for Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) and Master's Level counselling Interns across British Columbia. From starting the private practice journey, to refining your therapeutic approach - wherever you are in your own professional development, we can support you to thrive -- not just survive -- in this work, and to determine the most helpful steps you can take in supporting your own clients and practice.
Clinical Supervision & Consultation Supporting a Confident, Ethical & Sustainable Practice
The first 1-5 years in private practice can feel wonderful and wild all at once. In this stage, most RCCs are cultivating their voice as a therapist, deepening ethical awareness, learning the ins and outs of running a business and navigating particular client challenges, and figuring out how to manage and sustain both the business and your own wellness.
At Kayda Health, we have developed our supervision process to really support you in this stage (and later stages as well). Our process blends clinical guidance, reflective practice, and mentorship for business and professional identity development.
What is Clinical Supervision? Why Does it Matter?
Clinical Supervision, also known as Clinical Consultation, is a collaborative and educational process to explore clinical work with an experienced supervisor. It's a space to:
-
Reflect on your clinical decisions and boundaries
-
Strengthen competence
-
Develop and practice theoretical & practical Skills
-
Prevent burnout
-
Support Intervention & Safety Planning for clients
Engaging in regular Clinical Supervision or Consultation creates a higher quality of care for your clients. For you, it means confidence, clarity, ongoing growth, and offers some protection should you ever be faced with litigation or a complaint.
What does Clinical Supervision or Consultation look like at Kayda Health?
The clinical supervision offered by RCC-ACS at KAYDA Health is more than just a professional requirement; it is a pathway for growth, reflection, and improved client care. Both intern therapists and seasoned professionals reap tremendous benefits from this structured support. Through ongoing supervision, professionals can ensure that they are providing the highest standard of care while also looking after their own mental and emotional well-being. Growing Together: We Are Developing the Future of Therapy
The clinical supervision at Kayda Health supports mental health professionals by promoting continuous learning and building therapists' competency and confidence. We believe that interns and clinical counsellors receiving quality supervision are more likely to excel in their careers and have a higher likelihood of remaining in the field long-term while being known for the high quality of client care provided.
At Kayda Health, we occasionally have interns available to work with clients for a lower cost; these interns are directly supervised by the Kayda Health RCC-ACSs as part of their practicum placement. Clients who have feedback about their experience with the interns are encouraged to reach out to the supervising RCC-ACS on the team (Thea Megas). Interns who have a practicum placement but are interested in securing private or semi-private supervision are welcome to book a free consult with any RCC-ACS who is currently accepting new supervisees.
What is the format for Clinical Supervision & Consultation at Kayda Health?
At Kayda Health, our RCC-Approved Clinical Supervisors (RCC-ACS) provide individual and small-group supervision. We integrate:
-
Review of cases - exploring client's hopes & needs, the interventions & relationships in play, the therapist's hopes & needs, and the broader context to support guided learning, feedback, and planning.
-
Exploration of ethical dilemmas and professional standards
-
Compassionate accountability & encouragement
Our goal is to help you become both clinically skilled and sustainably grounded in your work.
Consultation For Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs)
Depending where you are at in terms of years in practice, development of clinician focus, etc., consultation offers:
-
Ongoing Professional Development aligned with BCACC standards.
-
A Reflective Partnership: The work we do as clinicians can be incredibly complex, even when we love it. Supervision offers a reflective space that can support burnout prevention, higher job satisfaction, and sometimes simply offer companionship in the often lonely or isolating world of private practice.
-
Emotional Grounding & Peer Support: Clinical supervision fosters a platform for networking and emotional support among peers. Sharing insights and experiences nurtures a collaborative community that enhances overall practice quality.
-
Guidance: Private practice development, ethics, professional standards, boundaries, intervention & safety planning... All of these are areas that it can help so much to have some mentorship and support.
Most RCCs in consultation at Kayda Health meet monthly, which helps to build a consistent rhythm for learning and growth. More urgent consultation on an ad hoc as-needed frequency can be arranged.
Supervision for Counselling Interns
We get a lot of requests to complete an internship at Kayda Health, and although we rarely take on interns, if you are completing a Master's-level practicum in counselling, Kayda Health offers the opportunity for private-pay supplementary supervision with an RCC-ACS. This can help not only to meet your clinical hours for registration with an association or college, but also can give you a broader perspective or more well-rounded feedback on the work you are doing. We can help with:
-
Building Confidence: Regular supervision sessions help interns open up about their experiences and stressors, significantly reducing anxiety and enhancing their self-assurance. For example, interns reporting higher supervision satisfaction also show a 20% increase in client engagement. Additionally, the numbers of therapists who report Imposter Syndrome is quite high - we can help explore this if it's a concern for you.
-
Strengthening Skills: Case discussion, constructive feedback & skill-building exercises are very much a part of how we provide supervision.
-
Client Focus: Emphasizing the client's best interests ensures that interns remain grounded in their therapeutic practices and provide a high quality service to clients. This client-centered approach is reflected in therapist-client relationships, leading to improved treatment outcomes.
Our interns are supported and valued as learner and emerging professionals ready to enter the field confidently. We welcome interns seeking additional private pay supervision to connect with the RCC-ACSs on our team for clinical consultation/ supervision. Please feel welcome to book a free consult with any RCC-ACS who is currently accepting new supervisees (Thea Megas).
