Hello, I'm Fan
I help employees, executives, entrepreneurs, retirees, people living with long-term effects of disabilities, and people aged 50+ adjusting to changes in this season of life.
I understand that competent and driven people can underneath the surface feel anxiety, inadequacy, shame, even fear. So, the focus of our working together is to connect with your deeper needs and shift towards living a life that matters to you. In this, I am entirely present to the person in front of me, bearing witness to your pain, courage, and capacity - I believe in the possibility before you despite your struggles. I tap into people's innate capacity to heal and grow through having meaningful conversations about what is right about you versus what is wrong with your life, what you want to change and why it matters, and what resources in you to draw on to achieve desired outcomes. I have seen this process bring out the best in people: a faith in their ability to change even when it is hard, and a commitment to actions that move them forward. Together we can see your envisioned future as a reality.
I genuinely care about the people I work with. I find people's willingness to be vulnerable and to trust both humbling and inspiring. There’s a great deal of compassion I feel towards the people I support because I see myself in each of them and have walked/will likely walk in similar shoes at some point in life. Just knowing I am there and deeply interested gives people some of the hope they need to make changes in their life. You can trust that I will be proud of you and happy to see you moving forward.
My Background:
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor in BC with a Master of Arts in Community Counselling, as well as a Master of Education in English Education along with certification in Hogan Personality Assessment and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
I am most experienced serving the working population - people at different points in their career from onboarding to retirement - managing life transitions and challenges to achieve personal and professional goals. Their struggles resonate with me because of my own lived experience of transition and adaptation to life circumstances, personally and professionally. I started in 1996 as a clinical counsellor on a multi-disciplinary team in an outpatient treatment program in Ohio US. After immigrating to Ontario Canada in 2001, I shifted gears pursuing career counseling as well as EAP (Employee Assistance Program) work. In 2005, I relocated to Asia for about 8 years. There, I delivered individual therapy and career development coaching through an EAP to employees of multinational companies as well as organizational consultation to HR & Management of the same. This work continued remotely after I returned to Canada until 2018. Over the past 6 years since 2019, I was employed with a large corporation in BC as a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant and later as a Mental Health Specialist. Now, I am shifting into private practice with a focus on helping individuals navigate the many transitions to continually build a life of hope and meaning.
Personally, I enjoy reading, watching documentaries, taking long walks in the woods, piecing puzzles, coloring, practicing mindful stretching, hanging out with friends, travelling, helping my husband with cooking and gardening.
I have availability variable virtual and in person Coquitlam availability virtually on weekdays/ weeknights - please email or click "Book An Appointment" to see current openings.
