At Kayda Health, several of our clinicians offer Couples Counselling and Family Therapy to support either romantic partners and/or family members in navigating communication challenges, stressors that impact relationships, and caregiving dynamics. We offer evidence-based therapy online & in-person in Coquitlam (clinician dependent) to help balance the needs and expectations in a relationship, repair breaches in trust, build communication & intimacy, and create a healthy vision of the relationship that works for each person involved.

Issues We Work With (Communication, Conflict, Stress)

There are many issues which can challenge the care we experience & give in familial & romantic relationships, such as:

  • Styles of Attachment, Conflict, and/or Communication

  • Stressors impacting nervous system regulation & emotional fatigue

  • Underlying physical & mental health concerns, including substance use, neurodivergence, personality disorders, serious or chronic pain/ illness

  • Relational Breaches & Dynamics

Who benefits most from these services?

Each person in the relationship as well as the relationship overall will benefit. To clarify; when one person in a relationship is struggling in some manner, it  impacts the entire system - everyone hurts together. Some kinds of relationships therapy can help and the types of issues are:

  • Couples experiencing conflict or communication breakdowns.

  • Partners navigating parenting stress, caregiving, or life transitions.

  • Families navigating mental, emotional, environmental, or physical issues. Families adjusting to separation, blended family dynamics, or role changes.

How does Couples Therapy or Family Therapy work?

To improve a relationship, it's crucial to understand that care-giving is an act of love AND a major risk factor to the relationship and to a care-giver's own wellbeing. Therefore, the idea of being mindful in the relationships we are in - of the needs and wants of each person involved, equity, overall health and wellbeing, and alignment to what matters most -- becomes a critical focus in therapy. Thus we land in a place of working on Mindful Care-giving when working with couples and families; tuning into what each person needs and can hold space for and working on a vision that is healthy for everyone. We additionally focus on attunement to self and other, attachment-building, and repair/ atonement where needed.
