Adult Counselling for ADHD, Teachers, Couples & Parents -- Who Jessica Supports
Support for ADHD & Neurodivergent Adults
-
High-Achieving, High-Masking, Burnt Out especially Women
-
Shame, Perfectionism, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, Burnout
I am passionate about supporting Neurodivergent people, especially women (who are much more likely to experience lengthy delays in receiving adequate medical support/ diagnoses).
I, myself, was a high-functioning and well-masked youngster who thought it was "normal" to have relentless mental chatter, a constantly looping to-do list, an an overwhelming sense of urgency. I received an ADHD diagnosis in my 20s and intimately know what it feels like to be “white-knuckling” through life, how exhausting it is to put seemingly endless effort into tasks others seem to do without thought, or like nothing you do is ever good enough or fast enough to bring relief.
Through my own work, I have found much healthier, more compassionate & grounded ways to live. Holding space for others in this way feels akin to reaching back in time and holding out a hand to my younger self—I would be honoured to walk alongside you and support you in developing the skills, understanding, and appreciation for your own unique neurodivergent brain.
Counselling for Teachers & Educators
-
Burnout, Moral Distress, Boundary Fatigue, Compassion Exhaustion
In 2024, Global News reported that 1 in 6 teachers in British Columbia are considering leaving the profession—the reality teachers face in the classroom every day is growing more and more stark. If you sense your emotions are being exploited to persist in a work environment that feels increasingly exhausting and unsustainable, where burnout, moral distress, boundary fatigue, and compassion exhaustion rise up, I see you.
As a teacher by day/ therapist by night (think “Batman for feelings”), I am uniquely able to offer educators the experience of feeling genuinely understood in ways that non-teachers may not. Teachers do not enter the field for money: we are deeply passionate are caring people who, year after year, grow to love the children and youth we support. The more empowered, supported, healthy, happy, and balanced teachers are, the better our work AND our overall life. I would love to offer YOU space and relieve you of the hardness that is constantly holding space for others.
Couples & Relationship Support
-
Kink/ Sex-Positive, Monogamous & Ethically Non-Monogamous Couples
-
Attachment Wounds, Communication, Disconnection
-
LGBTQ2Sp+ Allied
I love to work with couples who are navigating relational difficulties. Communication barriers, “desire mismatches”, intimacy difficulties -- I believe that true intimacy is accessed when we are brave enough to share the most vulnerable parts of us with the one closest to us.
I am kink/sex positive, and work with both monogamous and non-monogamous couples.
I am passionate about supporting couples in developing safe, non-judgmental, non-defensive communication channels with one another, so that you can reorient back towards working together overcoming difficult times as two members of the same team, not opponents.
I believe that the foundation of strong relationships rests in the ability to hold space for your partner’s experiences of your relationship, especially when they differ from that of your own. We are individuals first: we meet one another with entirely different histories, neurological network, emotional blueprints, attachment styles, and we fall in love as we are uniquely one-of-a-kind. With this, we approach situations with two completely different perceptual frameworks which can lead us feeling unseen, unheard, and potentially, unloved by our partners.
Therapy for Parents of Teens
-
Boundary-setting, Emotional Regulation, Conflict Management
I support parents and caregivers of teens through stress, uncertainty, and boundary challenges -- and through my background as a teacher in an alt program, I have many skills to share. I find so much fulfillment in empowering overwhelmed parents, and holding space for you to explore the ways of parenting that feel best for you. I support parents by fostering the confidence, steadiness, and compassion already within you so that you can parent with a grounded, loving, and calm clarity—even within the turbulent times.
"I feel I am at my highest service when I am holding a safe space for people to show up as their most vulnerable, authentic selves, beyond the social conditioning of showing up “how we are supposed to”.
~Jessica Arsenault, Intern Clinical Counsellor (2025)
How Jessica Works.
Overall, I offer Humanistic, Relational & Attachment-based Therapy. My approach is strength-based, trauma-informed, neurodiversity affirming, and safety-first. I draw from evidence based and attachment focused modalities like Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, and Person-Centered Therapy to support clients in feeling safer, more connected, and more aligned with their most authentic self. I also like to offer a high degree of information, or psychoeducation, to help clients better understand skills, theory, and research. Under the Kayda Health Intern Clinical Counselling Program, I receive ongoing clinical supervision from Thea Megas, MC, RCC-ACS.
Jessica's Background.
I have two Bachelor degrees, am almost finished my Master's degree and am a teacher by day, intern therapist by night right now.
In my spare time, you would be most likely to find me outside in a forest or on a mountain somewhere; our local mountains are my truest happy places. I have found time spent in nature to be indescribably healing for me, and it serves a triple purpose by providing me an outlet to exude my “ADHD zoomies”, as well as to increase the likelihood that I will run into any type of creature. I love animals, and have dreams of one day being rich enough to create a rescue farm for any and all critters who need some TLC. Physical activity plays a pivotal role in the maintenance of my own mental health and wellness, so if outside time is not available, lifting weights, running, and spin classes are selected based off of what “sounds the most fun” in that moment. This year, I have been challenging myself to find peace in stillness (something my hyperactivity tends to have a difficult time with). To do this, I have so much joy in revisiting childhood passions: I bought art markers and colouring books, play many, many, sudokus, and I am relearning piano after a 20-year hiatus.
