Who I Help
I support women, couples, caregivers, professionals, students, retirees, immigrants and adult children of immigrants, and BIPOC people navigating:
-
Burnout or exhaustion from caregiving or work.
-
Anxiety, depression, grief, or life transitions.
-
Feeling stuck between cultural or familial expectations.
-
Difficulty connecting with themselves beyond roles and responsibilities.
Many clients I work with struggle with appearing to have it all on the outside while feeling disconnected from themselves, their relationships, work, or the world around them. They may feel exhausted, stuck, or burdened by expectations — feeling like there’s always more to do and it’s never enough. In therapy, we work together to navigate fear, self-doubt, and the patterns that keep you stuck, helping you reconnect with your strengths, values, and authentic sense of self. I provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where therapy becomes a soft landing place — a place to reflect, explore, and begin creating meaningful change.
"Maryam is an amazing counsellor. I have never felt so deeply connected and truly heard as I have in her sessions. She has guided me through one of the most difficult times of my life with compassion, wisdom, and care. I honestly don’t know how I would have managed without her support. Her presence and insight have been life-changing, and I am so grateful for everything she has done for me." (Client Review)
How I Help
I am deeply fascinated by people — each person carries their own story, their ways of protecting themselves, and the parts they may feel unable to show. In therapy, I provide a space where you can finally be fully seen and heard: a space to speak your truth, notice your patterns, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by roles, expectations, or exhaustion.
This work is especially important for those carrying many responsibilities: caring for aging parents who may see you primarily as a caregiver rather than as an individual, supporting children who rely on you mainly as a provider, balancing multiple areas of life, or navigating life transitions and questions of purpose — all while managing the deep fatigue that comes from constantly giving of yourself.
I work with individuals, couples, caregivers, professionals, students, parents, retirees, and BIPOC communities. In our sessions, you are fully seen and recognized for who you are. You have the space to care for yourself, process what has weighed on you, and reconnect with the strength, clarity, and sense of self that has always been within you — beyond the expectations and roles that have defined you for others. Together, we create a space where therapy becomes a soft landing — a place to reflect, heal, and move toward a life that feels authentic, grounded, and deeply meaningful.
"I can’t recommend Maryam enough. In just a few sessions, she has helped me see the true benefits of counselling in ways I hadn’t expected. I especially love her poetic way of speaking and the poignant analogies she uses—they bring so much clarity and meaning to our conversations. She manages her time thoughtfully, takes excellent notes, and remembers what we’ve talked about in the past and links it to current conversations. Nothing ever feels rushed or unfinished. I feel truly heard, supported, and guided, and I’m grateful to have found her. I look forward to continue working with her." (Client Review)

Therapy Approach
My approach is integrative and draws from Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Systems Therapy. Together, we’ll explore and connect with your inner world, uncover the beliefs and dynamics that have kept you feeling stuck, and begin to create new ways of living and relating that feel authentic and freeing. This leads to lasting change. I am working to include approaches that can support healing from trauma and help restore a sense of safety in both mind and body, into my practice. I am training in EMDR in the Fall of 2025.
"I have had the privilege of working with Maryam Haghshenas and I can confidently say that she has been an incredible support in my journey. From the very first session, I felt comfortable and heard, which is not always easy to come by when seeking counselling." (Client Review)
My Background:
My journey to becoming a Registered Clinical Counsellor has been shaped by a dedication to helping people feel truly seen and valued. Before earning my Master’s in Counselling, I worked as a social worker, and before that, as a dental assistant—roles that taught me the power of deep listening, meeting people where they are, tuning into unspoken emotions and intuition, and staying grounded in compassion and empathy, especially in difficult moments. Balancing graduate studies, full-time work, and raising two young children gave me firsthand insight into the pressures so many carry—and the empowerment and alignment that can come from staying connected to one’s purpose, even in the midst of it all.
Outside of my work, I find grounding in creating resin art, tending to my garden, and engaging in community advocacy and fundraising for humanitarian aid efforts.
"I highly recommend Maryam to anyone seeking a counselor who is compassionate, professional, effective, and truly invested in their well-being." (Client Review)
