Hello, I'm Maryam

When you are the one everyone turns to, but no one really sees...

I understand the silent struggle of appearing, from the outside, to have it all, while deep down, feeling disconnected from oneself, relationships, work, and society - and as if no matter how hard you try and how well you do, it will never be enough. There is such discrepancy between the two worlds. I relate to the sense of always being unseen or unheard with no safe place to land -- as if you can never drop the mask. If you are here, you likely already have insight and know you need to get past the fear, suppression, internal isolation, rumination, and a critical inner voice holding you back. You know that to improve the status quo and envision what life can be change must happen. And I want you to know, it takes a lot of courage -- it's work; but it's the most worthwhile kind -- and I am in it with you.

Who I Help

I support women, couples, caregivers, professionals, students, retirees, immigrants and adult children of immigrants, and BIPOC people navigating:

  • Burnout or exhaustion from caregiving or work

  • Anxiety, depression, grief, or life transitions

  • Feeling stuck between cultural or familial expectations

  • Difficulty connecting with themselves beyond roles and responsibilities

How I Help

I am so fascinated with people - everyone comes with a way of looking or being and trying to cover up who they really are. So, in a simple way, just being a mirror is what I bring. However, it is more that you get the space to really talk things out, to hear yourself, and to learn through the process of therapy to catch yourself -- allowing yourself to be witnessed. This is especially important for sandwiched people as aging parents may no longer recognize you or know your name, your children look at you for what they need, not who you are, and you may be thinking about retirement or for women going through menopause or thinking about the meaning of life, but also what to do with the exhaustion. For couples, professionals, students, stay-at-home moms, caregivers, parents, retirees, BIPOC people; I give you a space where you are recognized entirely for who you are, and where you are allowed to recognize that you also need care -- whatever that means for you. I am here to help you - to give you that safe place to unload, reflect, and rediscover the strength that has always been within you, and to know yourself beyond the role of a good child, good employee, good partner, and so on.

I will help you:

  • Access emotional parts of yourself that are suppressed

  • Nurture and care for your inner child

  • Detach from labels, roles, and responsibilities that are impairing your connection to yourself and the life you truly want

  • Explore cultural expectations

  • Shift learnings around being stoic and bypassing feelings

  • Face your fears

  • Find self acceptance

  • Learn new coping skills and ways to regulate

You can just BE with me -- there is comfort here. Most of my clients tell me I am easy to talk to, non-judgmental, and they appreciate how engaged I am, especially in going back and forth to deeper places. All of this can create momentum for change so you can move your life forward in a meaningful and lasting way.

Therapy Approach

My approach is integrative and draws from Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Systems Therapy. Together, we’ll explore and connect with your inner world, uncover the beliefs and dynamics that have kept you feeling stuck, and begin to create new ways of living and relating that feel authentic and freeing. This leads to lasting change. I am working to include approaches that can support healing from trauma and help restore a sense of safety in both mind and body, into my practice. I am training in EMDR in the Fall of 2025.

My Background:

My journey to becoming a Registered Clinical Counsellor has been shaped by a dedication to helping people feel truly seen and valued. Before earning my Master’s in Counselling, I worked as a social worker, and before that, as a dental assistant—roles that taught me the power of deep listening, meeting people where they are, tuning into unspoken emotions and intuition, and staying grounded in compassion and empathy, especially in difficult moments. Balancing graduate studies, full-time work, and raising two young children gave me firsthand insight into the pressures so many carry—and the empowerment and alignment that can come from staying connected to one’s purpose, even in the midst of it all.

Outside of my work, I find grounding in creating resin art, tending to my garden, and engaging in community advocacy and fundraising for humanitarian aid efforts.
